Brett Favre Jersey Retirement: Packers CEO Wants It Retired BY 2016

Brett Favre jersey retirement will take place by the 2016, according to the Green Bay Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy.

The Brett Favre jersey retirement comes shortly after Murphy said he wanted Favre "back in the family."

The former Super Bowl champion might very well be the greatest quarterback in Green Bay history and the Brett Favre jersey retirement will take place before he becomes a possible first-ballot hall of famer in 2016.

"I thought Aaron Rodgers and Brett jointly presenting the Comeback Player of the Year Award at the NFL Honors program was a great first step. It is really just a question of timing in terms of retiring his jersey. The timing has to be right for both Brett and the organization. Brett will be a first ballot Hall of Famer in 2016, and we would like to retire his number prior to his induction," Murphy said in a statement.

The relationship changed during the year-to-year "decision" from Favre on whether to retire or come back and play again. It always caught the attention of the media and eventually parted ways before he tried making another comeback in 2008.

He told reporters that his relationship with Packers management deteriorated and he would sign with the New York Jets for one season. It was when he signed with divisional-rival Minnesota Vikings in 2009 that fans started to dislike Favre.

Favre retired after the 2010 season.
