Lauryn Hill Heads To Prison![VIDEO] 'Killing Me Softly' Singer Locked Up For 3 Month In Jail For Back TaxesREPORT]

Lauryn Hill reported to federal prison on Monday to begin a three-month sentence for failing to pay federal income taxes. Hill will serve the three months at a low security female prison facility in Danbury, Connecticut. Lauryn Hill's punishment includes an additional three months of house arrest after she checks out of prison.

Lauryn Hill plead guilty last year to not paying her federal taxes from 2005 to 2007. The total amount on which she failed to pay taxes is $1.8 million.

According to the prosecutor, the sentence handed down "also takes into account additional income and tax losses for 2008 and 2009 -- when she also failed to file federal returns -- along with her outstanding tax liability to the state of New Jersey, for a total income of approximately $2.3 million and total tax loss of approximately $1,006,517."

Lauryn has sold over 16 million albums but In court Lauryn Hill told the judge that about her unfortunate financial circumstances, feeling robbed from others:

"Someone did the math, and it came to around $600 million," she said at the time. "And I sit here before you trying to figure out how to pay a tax debt? If that's not like enough to slavery, I don't know."

The U.S. attorney's office said that the income in question was earned mainly from music and film royalties that were paid to companies she owned from 2005 to 2008.

Hill recently explained her situation in a Tumblr post, in which she claimed that she had signed a record contract with Sony to help pay the owed sum. Hill previously released a song on iTunes, reportedly to help make the legal deadline on her tax case.

Hill hasn't released much music since her 1998 debut with "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill." The song can be heard below.

Hill reportedly had paid back the tax penalty that she owed keeping the deadline the judge had set.

The R&B artist's attorney released a statement on Sunday, May 5, just one day before the court-mandated repayment deadline, that Hill had "now fully paid" the sums she owed in back taxes, state taxes and penalties. Billboard reported that the figure has been estimated at over $900,000.

Reuters reported that Hill's attorney, Nathan Hochman, said in an email, "Ms. Hill has not only now fully paid prior to sentencing her taxes, which are part of her criminal restitution, but she has additionally fully paid her federal and state personal taxes for the entire period under examination through 2009."
