As the alleged release dates of the iPad 5 and iPad Mini gets closer, rumors that the iPad Mini 2 will have a Retina display is at fever pitch. If it ends up being true, the smaller iPad will have Apple’s highest-resolution display available for its devices.

Aside from the display upgrade, the budget iPad may also have the Apple A6X processor, which is currently on the iPad 4. It would gibe the smaller iPad the same processing power, as it’s larger version.

The original iPad Mini has a comparatively low resolution of 1024 x 768 according to UK tech blog, ExpertReviews. However, because of the iOS’s efficient use of screen space, the tablet feels more spacious than an Android counterpart.

Online news site Brightwire is reporting that AU Optronics is manufacturing a 7.9in screen with a resolution of 2048x1536. This means the future iPad Mini 2 will have a pixel density of 324ppi, just behind the iPhone 5’s 326ppi.

Rumors have noted that both the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 will be launched the same month. But there have been conflicting reports on the specific date.

The tech gian’t decision to give the iPad Mini 2 Retina display may demand that it launched the device a bit later than the iPad 5, which DigiTimes reported could be released this September.

Some Apple enthusiasts and industry insiders say that it is possible that both the tablets and the much talked about iPhone 5S and iPhone 6, will all be released the same time the iOS 7 is made available for download.

The International Business Times points to a mid-September launch for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 release, which if the tablets plus phones launch rumors are true, will be the same time the general public will have a glimpse of the new iPad Mini and the fifth iteration of the it's bigger counterpart.

If such event occurs, the fall launch of these very popular gadgets will make it the biggest and most anticipated launch for new Apple products.

DisplaySearch, noted the blog ExpertReviews, said in a special report published more than a week ago that the iPad Mini 2 would be released with the same 1024x768 screen as the original model.

“The new iPad mini will continue to use a 7.9-inch display with as 1024x768 resolution, but it will use the iOS 7 operating system and an A6 processor, in a slimmer design than the current generation,” wrote analyst Richard Shim from DisplaySearch.

The display industry-focused blog said that it believes that Apple will release a new iPad mini with a resolution of 2048x1536 in early 2014. This would be despite an initial release of the new iPad Mini 2 with the original resolution.

ExpertReviews argued, however, that they’re not convinced Apple will release the new iPad Minis with varying resolutions.

“This sounds like a recipe for disaster, with Apple running the risk that it would annoy its customers,” wrote David Ludlow at ExpertReviews.

Ludlow’s overall view is that the iPad Mini 2 could probably end up with the same resolution as the full-size iPad. This way, the Cupertino tech giant will only need to get developers to write apps for the one screen resolution.

Apple’s goal has always been focused on getting the best experience for iOS devices. Apps working well on every screen resolution of every device is presumably a technical objective they would want accomplished and it could be attained if the new iPad Mini 2 will have the same display specs as other iOS devices.
