PS4 Vs. Xbox One: Exclusives A ‘Nightmare’ To Develop? Bethesda Says Multi-Platform Development Harder Than Expected

Bethesda, the development team behind massive multi-platform games including the Elder Scrolls series and Fallout 3, has revealed that creating identical games across both the Xbox One and PS4 next-generation consoles is proving more complex than anticipated, branding the process a "nightmare," Tech Digest reports.

"It's really not easy, but it's certainly much easier," said Bethesda Vice President Pete Hines in an interview with OXM.

"They don't all play with each other. PC and Mac play together, but Xbox One is its own thing and PS4 is its own thing. The whole cross-platform thing is just a nightmare."

"I'm not trying to insult Sony or Microsoft, but they're high-end PCs, the way they're architectured. Though they're still in development, they're not done, they're much easier to develop for."

Tech Digest also reports there might be a difference in next-generation console exclusives because both machines operate very differently.

For now, Sony is worried about producing enough pre-orders of its PS4 console.

GameStop pre-orders of the PS4 have closed because of a high demand, according to the company's website, starting speculation that exclusives for the console might take a hit and that the Xbox One might gain an advantage.

GameStop was given orders from Sony to allow unlimited pre-order sales of the PS4 last month, but now the companies have decided to stop because of production complications.

And after Microsoft was able to refashion some of its policies on game sharing and online connectivity, some looking to pre-order a next-generation console at GameStop might look to the Xbox One as the PS4 continues to be sold-out.
