Pokemon X And Y: Comparing The Pokedex Monsters And Their Real Life Inspirations

With 26 new Pokemon unveiled so far for Pokemon X and Y being released October 12 worldwide for the 3DS, fans can definitely see the creative endeavors in turning familiar subjects into incoming Kalos Pokedex additions.

Here is some background on these Pokemon and where their inspiration comes from.

To start, there are some obvious ones like new starter Pokemon Fennekin and Froakie. Fennekin draws from the beautiful fennec fox, while Froakie is a frog-like Pokemon whose name may be a combination of frog, froth, and croak.

Clauncher, with its enormous claw on one side, is very likely inspired by the pistol shrimp, which in real life, can produce bubbles with a speed of up to 60 mph, sound up to 218 decibels, and reach up to 5,000 degrees kelvin, which is comparable to the temperature of the sun. Yikes!

Talonflame, the awesome fire/flying Pokemon, is unique in the numerous bird Pokedex monsters in that it is based off of the Peregrine Falcon.

"See the pattern on the underside of Talonflame? That matches up to the very distinctive pattern of the Peregrine Falcon," writes Pokejungle analyst Mechanos.

And what about the newest Kalos Pokedex Pokemon revealed in the latest Corocoro?

The squid Pokemon Maaiika (its Japanese name), is based off of Maika, a common Japanese squid.

And as far as the epic Pokemon X and Y legendary Pokemon, the most prominent rumor behind the inspiration is that they are based off of the Norse mythology of Yggdrasil.

Is the Pokemon X and Y Pokedex better than its predecessors? Do you like what you've seen so far?
