PS4 Vs. Xbox One Exclusives: Game Developers Going Broke? EA Announces It Will Raise Price Of Next-Generation Console Games

Sony and Microsoft have both promised that their next-gen titles will at least start out priced the same as those on the current systems, but EA will be pushing up to a higher price point, Tech Radar reports.

EA titles on the Xbox One and PS4 will be priced at £5 more in the UK than on current Xbox 360 and PS3 titles now, Tech Radar also reports.

"At present, the only publisher to confirm costs of their next generation games are EA, attaching a price of £54.99. No other game prices have been confirmed," a representative of the company said, according to Tech Radar.

Last month, Activision, Unisoft and EA spokespeople all declined to comment on next-generation game pricing remaining the same for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, despite the rising cost of game development.

Both Sony and Microsoft announced last month that their PS4 and Xbox One console games will cost the same price as current Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 games.

And game developers like Activision Unisoft and EA might have been losing out on millions of dollars as the cost of game development and production featuring new specs continues to rise.

"We aren't here to be greedy; we are here to do the best we possibly can for gamers and it's great that our price point has been well received," said a Sony representative at an E3 press conference, according to Pocket-lint.

"It was very important for us to introduce it at a very attractive price point, and it was very important for us to bring that community with us, and to be open to that community and be open to them."

But now EA has decided to backtrack and protect its future losses on stagnant game pricing by hiking the price of its exclusives.
