Andrew Garfield Wants Spider-Man To Be Gay In Spider-Man 3 Movie? Emma Stone Character Gwen Stacy Might Fight ‘Dude’ MJ For Peter Parker’s Heart As He ‘Explores His Sexuality?’

Andrew Garfield, star of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," has an interesting idea for the next few movies in the franchise: that Peter Parker aka Spider-Man should experiment with his sexuality and become gay. Though Andrew might have been joking, Emma Stone can't be too happy with the idea that her role as Spider-Man's love interest Gwen Stacy might be in danger.

The 29-year-old actor mentioned to producer Mat Tolmach that the character "MJ" could be played by a guy in the next movie, according to Entertainment Weekly. MJ is Mary Jane Watson in the comic books, Peter Parker's most famous love interest.

"I was kind of joking, but kind of not joking about MJ," Garfield told the magazine for its San Diego Comic-Con preview issue. "And I was like, 'What if MJ is a dude?' Why can't we discover that Peter is exploring his sexuality? It's hardly even groundbreaking!...So why can't he be gay? Why can't he be into boys?"

Shailene Woodley was originally cast as MJ, the romantic rival for Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy, in the sequel to the 2012 blockbuster, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," The New York Daily News reports.

However, Woodley was cut from the film, but director Marc Webb said the character would be restored in a future installment in the franchise.

Garfield took his interesting pitch for the next film even further, and said he knew who would play a perfect MJ...A real MJ.

"I've been obsessed with Michael B. Jordan since "The Wire," Garfield said. "He's so charismatic and talented. It'd be even better--we'd have interracial bisexuality!"

Sorry, Emma Stone! Better get ready to fight a man for Peter Parker's heart!

Webb is very aware of Garfield's idea for Spider-Man 3. When the director was asked by Entertainment Weekly about Garfield's comments, Webb said: "Michael B. Jordan, I know."

Off-screen, Garfield and Stone are doing better than ever. They were recently spotted in New York City, holding hands and hanging out in the Big Apple.
