Elisabeth Hasselbeck Leaves `The View’ for `Fox and Friends;’ Barbara Walters Says There's No Rush to Replace Her

Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s replacement on “The View” is not a priority. The lone conservative voice on “The View,” Elisabeth Hasselbeck, announced that she will be leaving the show to replace Gretchen Carlson on "Fox & Friends" in the fall. Elisabeth Hasselbeck often clashed with her more liberal co-hosts making for interesting television, but frayed nerves backstage. Barbara Walters let it slip that “The View” will “take our time” replacing Hasselbeck on the panel.

Elisabeth Hasselback recorded her last taping of “The View” yeserday, the same day that Fox confirmed that Hasselback will be replacing Gretchen Carlson. Hasselback was the house conservative on the four-woman panel show, “The View.”

After Elisabeth Hasselbeck said her goodbyes on “The View” this morning, television news veteran Barbara Walters, 83, told the audience that “We have plenty of guest hosts and we’re going to take our time. We are not going to be filling it very soon.” Walter announced that she will be retiring soon herself. Barbara Walters was the show’s co-creator. Fellow co-host Joy Behar is also leaving the show. She joked, “Won’t you be a fish out of water [at Fox]?! I just have to say that I have appreciated your presence here a lot.”

Walters also had a message for wannabe replacements, “Don’t send us any tapes or resumes!”

Hasselbeck told “The View”’s audience “The past 10 years have been nothing short of extraordinary. I wish the next person or co-host that sits here an extraordinary set of years to come of their own.”

Whoopie Goldberg, who isn’t going anywhere told Hasselback, “I just think you’re the cat’s meow. You’ve been a really good friend to me, and I appreciate you.”

Hasselbeck, 36, announced her new gig in a written Fox News Channel announcement saying, “I have been a long-time fan of ‘Fox & Friends’ and am excited to be joining their team in September.”
