Walmart Employee Fired For Reporting Dog Trapped In Customer's Hot Truck

A Walmart employee was fired in Canada because she complained about a customer leaving a dog in a hot vehicle.

The Walmart employee was allegedly fired after calling police to report  the pooch being trapped in the truck.

In Kemptville, Ontario, near Ottowa, Carla Cheney was a Walmart pharmacy technician. She was fired because she observed a customer's dog in danger...and reported it.

Cheney saw the dog jump out of a customer's hot truck twice to escape the heat inside. Finally, the man put his puppy back into the truck and rolled up the windows on the vehicle so that the dog was trapped in the heat.

Cheney felt sorry for the dog and was concerned, so she approached the man.

"I said he should not be leaving his dog in the car," Cheney said to the press about the customer. "The man said it was none of my business."

The Walmart employee spoke to her manager about the incident-but he was indifferent, even though the dog's life was in danger.

"I was pretty upset and I said to my manager, 'What do I do?' He said it was none of our business and went into the store," Cheney told the Ottowa Citizen.

After that, she called the police. And after that, Cheney says, Walmart supervisors confronted her after she began her shift and ordered her to leave the store premises.  They told her that she was fired for being rude to a customer.

Wal-Mart wouldn't comment on the specific incident, but sys that there are guidelines associates must follow.

"We require our associates to follow these guidelines, which include reporting any safety concerns to a member of management, and engaging customers in a manner that is respectful," a spokesperson said.

Cars can get as high as 20 degrees higher than outdoors after just 10 minutes and 30 degrees higher than the ouside temperature within 20 minutes, according to The American Veterinary Medical Association.
