Oscar Pistorius Trial Date: Blade Runner Charged For Murder Of Girlfriend Resumes Training, Low-Key Track Routine Is Prep For Aug. 19 Court Appearance

Oscar Pistorius, known as “Blade Runner” for his prosthetic legs, who faces trial for the alleged murder of his supermodel girlfriend has resumed training late last month, according to NBC News.

Base on statement from the athlete’s media manager, Anneliese Burgess, the double-amputee athlete has “decided to resume a low-key track routine” to help prepare him mentally for his trial, with his next court appearance occurring on August 19.

The murder trial set to begin on the said date would have been Reeva Steenkamp’s 30th birthday if she was alive.

Burgess also said that the South African Olympian and Paralympian is “is not contemplating a formal return to athletics and his training is not aimed at preparing for competition.”

“His focus at this time remains entirely on the court case," Burgess said, as reported by NBC News.

"His family, and those close to him, have encouraged him to spend a few hours a week on the track to assist him in finding the necessary mental and emotional equilibrium to process his trauma and prepare for the trial.”

The 26-year-old Oscar Pistorius is accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, 29, in a bathroom at his home in Pretoria, South Africa last Valentine’s Day.

He has been consistent in denying the charges saying that he mistook Reeva as a burglar and fired the shots for self-defense.

He was arrested shortly after the incident, which occurred at the evening of February 14, but was granted bail after a pre-trial hearing.
