Sources close to Sony have said the release date announcement for the PS4 will happen at Gamescom, an annual gaming and entertainment fair in Germany, according to PC Games.

Gamescom will be held in Cologne from August 21-25.

Several release date rumors surrounding Sony's Playstation 4 swirled after the company mentioned that it would make its console available in the "Holiday 2013" season. But now sources say they will publicize the Playstation 4 release date at one of the largest gaming events in the world.

But Sony also released an advertisement on Twitter on Tuesday, displaying a photo of a solar eclipse that could point to a November 3 sale date.

Sony shared the image showing a solar eclipse with the text "When Worlds Collide" - November 3 is the date of a total solar eclipse which will be visible in North America, Asia, Europe and other locations, according to Gotta Be Mobile.

Given the imagery in the PS4 teaser image, it's possible that Sunday November 3rd is the PS4 release date or the kickoff of a major campaign that leads up to the PS4 release, Gotta Be Mobile also reports.

Although the Playstation 4 release date is expected to be announced at the Gamescom conference in Germany this August, Wal-Mart might have given away Sony's long-awaited secret.

"The PS4 console will ship free on release date this November," Wal-Mart writes on its item description of the PS4.

"Playstation 4 is the best place to play with dynamic, connected gaming, powerful graphics and speed, intelligent personalization, deeply integrated social capabilities and innovative second-screen features."
