Sharknado Becomes Twitter Bait [TRAILER]: Red Cross, Weather Service Mock Syfy Movie While Providing Storm Safety Information

If SyFy was expecting rave reviews and Twitter support, they didn't get it after the premiere of "Sharknado," but it did give the National Weather Service and Red Cross a chance to educate people on storm safety.

Despite mediocre ratings, "Sharknado" has become the Twitter runaway sensation and the gift that keeps on giving.

According to The Atlantic, SyFy only managed to nab one million viewers despite tweets nearly equal to that number. But it's perhaps a blessing in disguise, not only for bored TV viewers, but the National Weather Service as well.

"As with any waterspout or tornado, the best advice is to be in an interior part of the lowest floor of a sturdy building-and not outside, whether sharks are raining down or not."

The film stars Tara Reid, John Heard, Ian Ziering, and Cassie Scerbo.
