American Idol Sued By Black Contestants, $25 Million Each For Race Discrimination, But What About Ruben, Fantasia, Jordin, and Candice Glover?

In addition to its recent judges drama, "American Idol" is being sued by 10 former black contestants for alleged racial discrimination.

According to The Huffington Post, the 10 contestants were eliminated from "American Idol" unfairly, and because of their race, were made to look like "violent criminals, liars, and sexual deviants."

These contestants include:

--Corey Clark (Season 2): Previously arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery.
--Jaered Andrews (Season 2): Assault charge stemming from a bar fight, but was later acquitted.
--Donnie Williams (Season 3): Arrest for speeding and drunk driving.
--Terrel Brittenum/Derrell Brittenum (Season 5): Arrest and charges of identity theft.
--Thomas Daniels (Season 6): Charges of drunk driving, amongst other criminal history.
--Akron Watson (Season 6): Misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge.
--Ju'Not Joyner (Season 8): Questioned contestant contract and said the competition was "rigged."
--Chris Golightly (Season 9): Disqualified reportedly over former boy band recording contract.

The contestants' attorney, James H. Freeman, asserted that his clients were never convicted of their charges, and that black contestants were singled out to be probed regarding their criminal history.

In addition, it is illegal in California for employers to ask employees about their criminal history. But some are not certain this lawsuit will hold.

"It seems that this lawsuit claiming racial discrimination under California employment laws is not only far-fetched, but wholly misplaced. Yes, California law does prohibit an employer from asking a job applicant about arrests that did not result in convictions, and yes, California law does prohibit employers from discriminating against employees based on race, but the key words here are 'employer' and 'employee'," voiced attorney Anahita Sedaghatfar according to Fox News.

"The California Fair Employment and Housing Act and Title VII, which prohibit racial discrimination in employment, simply do not apply because it will be hard to prove that these individuals were employees."

In addition, "American Idol" has also had its fair share of successful contestants who are black, including season 2 winner Ruben Studdard, season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino, season 6 winner Jordin Sparks, and season 12 winner Candice Glover.

Jennifer Hudson, a former "American Idol" season 3 contestant, was also mired in racial discrimination controversy, but has since had a successful career in the film and music industries.
