Pokemon X And Y Battle Gameplay [UPDATE]: Underwater Battles Unveiled In New 3DS Release Trailer!

New footage showing Pokemon X and Y battle gameplay has unveiled underwater battles as a new terrain for the upcoming 3DS release.

In the trailer below, a Clauncher is battling a Flabebe completely submerged underwater, while Clauncher hits Flabebe with a water-type move.

What is interesting about this unveil is that unlike sky battles, which only allows Flying-Type Pokemon to enter such a terrain, it appears non-Water Pokemon can do battle underwater. Although, technically, we are only seeing Clauncher attacking, so it is not 100 percent confirmed.

One thing to note about this Japanese Pokemon X and Y trailer is that it heavily highlights battle gameplay in many terrains.

In this one trailer, we get to see the forest, grass field, beach, mountainside, cave, as well as the much discussed sky battle and horde battle gameplay modes.

Without question, with Pokemon X and Y getting a huge graphical boost for the 3DS, a lot more details have been put into battle gameplay than before.

But it also raises the question of how one transitions from regular battles, to underwater, to the sky.

Does it depend on which Pokemon is leading your team? Or is there an option one can hit prior to battle that enables two Pokemon to fly up into the sky or dive underwater?

If any Pokemon can battle underwater, will that be explained?

Check out the Pokemon X and Y trailer below (the underwater battle gameplay is shown around the 42-second mark), and let us know what you think!
