Sony may consider a new hardware bundle containing the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, its respective next-generation gaming console and handheld gaming device, which would be set at a $500 price tag BostInno reports.

The bundle is rumored to be released at the end of the year and is aimed at connecting the capabilities of both consoles, BostInno also reports.

An insider source told VideoGamer.com that Sony is "keen to push PlayStation Vita's functionality with its upcoming next-gen platform."

Sony's bundle, featuring the Playstation 4 and the Playstation Vita, would cost the same price as the Xbox One, which could give the Japanese developer an advantage over Microsoft.

But legendary tech-whiz John Carmack said that the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One are "very close" and that "they're both very good," according to Kotaku, leaving gamers wondering if both next-generation consoles will be more alike than expected.

While Carmack says he hasn't done enough benchmarking to be able to do a straight-up comparison between both next-generation consoles, he suggests they have a lot of commonalities, Kotaku also reports.

No official word from Sony on the announcement of the bundle package.
