Benedict Cumberbatch Juggles Sherlock Season 3 With Madagascar: 'Star Trek' Actor 'Very Flattered' By Doctor Who Vote Of Confidence

As Benedict Cumberbatch continues filming for "Sherlock" season 3, the actor has joined another movie, on top of the ever-present "Doctor Who" fandom calling for his name.

Recently, Benedict Cumberbatch has been confirmed to lend his voice to "The Penguins of Madagascar," a spin-off of the lucrative "Madagascar" franchise.

According to BBC America, Benedict Cumberbatch will play an animal CIA agent who is hot on the trails of a baddie, voiced by John Malkovitch.

"The Penguins of Madagascar" is set for a March 27, 2015.

Meanwhile, the actor is finishing up season 3 of "Sherlock" with the season finale, "His Last Vow."

"It's great. The second series was weird. Because it was such a phenomenal success, we were a bit distanced from the routine and the inhabiting of those characters. This season, straight into it, comfortable," says Cumberbatch according to EntertainmentWise.

"And [the characters all] immediately fit under our skins. [It's] really hard work because it wouldn't be a good show unless we were trying to evolve it and set ourselves new challenges and standards. But I love it. I'm very fond of playing him. You're in for a treat this series."

Currently, "Sherlock" season 3 is finishing up "His Last Vow," with filming to take place until early September. And hopefully, a premiere date for all season 3 will come soon after.

In addition, it seems Benedict Cumberbatch continues to draw fan preference as a new Doctor, despite Peter Capaldi already being announced as the 12th Doctor.

And it makes sense, given that Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss work on both "Doctor Who" and "Sherlock."

Why hasn't a crossover happened already?!
