PlayStation 4 Release Date Set For Holiday Season, Sony Reveals; Toys R Us’ Apologizes For Incorrect Info Regarding Launch of Next-Gen Game Console

According to Toys R Us, PlayStation 4 release date in Great Britain is set for December 13, two weeks after Xbox One's market launch, as reported by BT Games, cited in IGN.

Toys R US was contacted asking for comment regarding this news about PlayStation 4 release date, as well as Microsoft's Xbox One's. Asked if the dates were just placeholder dates or if it has a factual basis,  a spokesperson answered,  "I can confirm this information has been given direct from our suppliers and is accurate."

However, an update on August 5 was made regarding the PlayStation 4 release date news. To clarify the statement, Toys R Us confirmed to the game blog site that the dates they released were not official and only mere guesses. The latest statement from the retailer regarding alleged Xbox One and PlayStation 4 release date reads, "Please accept my sincerest apologies for the incorrect information you were given yesterday regarding the Xbox One and Playstation 4 Console official release dates."

It should be noted that news about PlayStation 4 release dates from retailers are still unofficial, unless Sony confirmed it.

When contacted by BT Games, Sony replied with a short statement confirming PlayStation 4 release date. Its response was, "We haven't made any announcements other than coming this holiday season."

Meanwhile, Microsoft also made a statement regarding Xbox One release date. It reads:

We have announced that Xbox One will launch this November, but have not shared any further details. It's common practice for retailers to use placeholder dates for pre-order items without an official launch date. Please stay tuned to news.xbox.com, where we share the latest official details about all things Xbox One.

Gamescom 2013 is happening soon this August. Most likely, Sony and Microsoft will reveal further details about PlayStation 4 release date and Xbox One launch, respectively, during the video game trade fair show to be held in Cologne, Germany.
