"The Vampire Diaries" season 5 air date isn't until October 3rd, but executive producers of "Vampire Diaries" have been giving a few spoiler to the media. Now, one of the producers hints at the death of a main character.

Executive producer Julie Plec talked to Entertainment Weekly, and revealed a few spoilers for the upcoming season 5. Unfortunately for "Vampire Diaries" fans, it looks like death is imminent in the next season. According to HwHills.com, there will be some major death scenes for villains and possible core cast members alike. Better hold on to your favorite characters while they're around!

But Plec was careful not to name any names or specifics.

Plec told Entertainment Weekly: "No season is complete without the demise of a major character, and this year is no exception."

"I think we've got some juicy villains that need some vanquishing and there's always a possibility that one of our beloved heroes will kick the bucket," she added. "When, who, or how, I'll never tell, but it's definitely in the cards."

Now that Katherine is a weak and helpless human, it's possible that she might be one of the characters to get booted off the show. On the other hand, HwHills.com reports that Katherine, played by Nina Dobrev, is going to get more screentime than ever as a regular character in the season 5 plotline.

So what about the death and life of the rest of the characters? Bonnie, as we know, is already dead, but still playing a big role in the show as a ghost. Elena's brother Jeremy just came back to life and will start to try to rebuild his life. Stefan is currently drowning, coming back to life, and then drowning again at the bottom of the quarry. Damon and Elena are more alive than ever, enjoying their new relationship status and, according to Plec, having a jolly good time.

"Summer has passed in which poor Stefan has been suffering at the bottom of the quarry and Damon and Elena have been having hot lovin' sex," Plec said.

Season 5 is set to debut on the CW, Thursday night, October 3rd.
