Samsung Galaxy S3 Update: Jelly Bean Android 4.2.2 Not Happening For Best Selling Handset, Tech Giant’s UK Office Says Device Will Get Android 4.3 Upgrade

The Samsung Galaxy S3 update has been a frustrating issue for the smartphone’s numerous owners, but now it seems that the much awaited Jelly Bean Android 4.2.2 update will not push through for best-selling Android smartphone.

A Samsung spokesperson who talked to Know Your Mobile said that the UK subsidiary of the company “will confirm upgrade plans to Android 4.3 to selected Galaxy devices in the coming months.” They shared no plans on a possible Android 4.2.2 update.

This was in-line with what happened in Germany, when the carrier’s representative said in a Deutsche Telekom forum that Samsung Galaxy S3 would not be updated to Android 4.2.2 and instead will get the latest 4.3 Jelly Bean build.

U.S. carriers rolled out OTA updates anyway

According to Intomobile, AT&T has started rolling over-the-air updates for two phones from its portfolio, one of which is the Samsung Galaxy S3. The other is Pantech Discover.

The Samsung smartphone is getting Android 4.1.2 along with a number of system tweaks and changes. Users may need to download the 200MB-heavy file over Wi-Fi though some have reported that it’s possible to do the update via LTE. Intomobile suggests taking the Wi-Fi route to ensure that the download is completed as soon as possible.

The mobile industry-focused blog suggests that your device must have enough battery to keep the phone alive until the end of the updates process.

Android 4.2.2 has been constantly delayed

The much-awaited Android 4.2.2 has been constantly delayed and could be the reason for the tech giant’s shift of gears on the issue. The expected release date for the latest version of Android’s operating system is a frustrating topic for many Android users and comments have sprung with users expressing their angst on the delay.

User disappointment and impatience on the matter could be key reasons why U.S. carriers like AT&T and Verizon did their own updates. It allowed users to access alternatives.

User James Wadsworth wrote, “Tired of waiting for the update, what is the point, scrap it completely Samsung, your clients are not fools..” Another user, Jerry, said that his “first experience with Samsung” would also be his last.

A user insinuated that since sales of a new phone could be affected by the updates, the delays must be driven by greed.

Speculations last May have suggested that the latest Android OS would be available for the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 in June. News of the delays began spreading when the summer month of June came and went without an update being released by Samsung.
