Hannah Anderson was found after weeklong search for the missing California teenager ended in the Idaho wilderness yesterday. FBI agents rescued Hannah Anderson and killed her alleged abductor in a a campsite deep in a remote wilderness. 16-year-old Hannah Anderson was taken by helicopter to a hospital for observation but is reported to be unharmed. San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore said Hannah Anderson appeared to be in “pretty good shape.”

Law enforcement officials gave few details about the shooting, saying it would take some time to process the Hannah Anderson crime scene. A police spokesperson said “Obviously, we would have liked Mr. DiMaggio to surrender and face justice in a court of law, but that’s not going to be the case.”

Hannah Anderson’s apparent kidnapper, James Lee DiMaggio, 40, was killed after an FBI search team found him near Morehead Lake. A few miles from where the pair were seen by a horseback rider on Wednesday. Morehead Lake is about 70 miles north of Boise. The search team was scouring the area by plane.

At a new briefing earlier today Ada County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Andrea Dearden said “Hannah’s safe, and that’s the best outcome we were hoping for.”

Hannah Anderson’s father, Brett Anderson, sent a text to CNN saying “I am nervous, excited and saddened for my wife and son and worried what my daughter has been through. It’s now healing time. Keep us in your prayers.”

The manhunt began on Aug. 4 after firefighters found the bodies of Hannah Anderson’s mother and younger brother at DiMaggio’s home east of San Diego. Several Western states got Amber Alert text messages about Hannah Anderson.

A man riding horseback on Wednesday spotted hikers that he thought were the missing pair. The witness said a man and teenage girl had a tent and backpacks, but looked out of place. Dearden said “They exchanged pleasantries and he left the area thinking they were hiking and camping.” The horseback rider found out about the Amber Alert when he got home and contacted the Idaho State Police.

DiMaggio’s Nissan Versa was found on Friday morning. The car had been featured in the Amber Alert message. Dearden said the car was found at “the last place you can go before you hit the wilderness and stop driving.” Authorities confirmed that it was DiMaggio’s car check the vehicle identification number. Law enforcement were concerned that explosives might have been panted in the car, but but none were found.

About 200 local and federal agents were searching the area by Saturday afternoon.
