"The Vampire Diaries" season 5 premiere air date is October 3rd, but executive producers of "Vampire Diaries" have been giving a few spoilers about what fans can expect in the upcoming season. Where will Caroline and Tyler's relationship head?

Wetpaint spoke to "Vampire Diaries" producers, Caroline Dries and Julie Plec at the recent CBS Summer TCA All-Star event, HwHills.com reports.

Plec opened up about Caroline Forbes' character, played by Candice Accola, and the changes that she will experiences as she goes away to Whitmore College with Elena, and they make the best out of being college freshmen while also being vampires.

"Caroline is in true Caroline Forbes form, trying to make the best of her college experience, in spite of several disappointments that come her way," Plec said.

She also dished about Caroline's relationship with Tyler, and how that will develop during season 5.

"A challenge that she has to face in her relationship with Tyler, who she still loves very, very deeply and remains deeply committed to," Plec continued.

HNGN reports that Tyler won't appear in season 5 for the first couple of episodes. However, he'll appear in a "very moving" moment, Dries added.

Plec added that Caroline's character will focus on transitioning between who she was in high school, and who she is becoming in college.

"But college is not easy when you're moving away from home and you're trying to service a relationship that defined you in high school, and now where does it go in college?" Plec said. "And she, more than anybody, will be really struggling with adapting from this sort of bright and sunshiny high school Caroline Forbes to the girl that's trying to live a good life at college in spite of a lot of obstacles that are going to come her way."

Season 5 is set to debut on the CW, Thursday night, October 3rd.
