George Lucas, Wife Mellody Hobson Welcome Baby Girl Just Weeks After Wedding, First Biological Child For ‘Star Wars’ Creator

George Lucas and his wife, Ariel Investments president Mellody Hobson, welcomed a baby girl just weeks after their wedding in June. Their daughter was born via surrogate on August 9, according to The Huffington Post.

Lucas, 69, and Hobson, 44, married on June 22 at Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, California, USA Today reports. Journalist Bill Moyers officiated the ceremony, and director Steven Spielberg toasted the groom, The Huffington Post reports.

The child, named Everest Hobson Lucas, arrived on Friday. She joins Lucas' older kids Amanda, 32; Katie, 25; and Jett, 20, according to USA Today.

HollywoodLife.com reports that Everest is the first biological child for Lucas and Hobson. Lucas' other children were adopted.

George and Mellody have been together as a couple since 2006, where they met at a business conference, but didn't marry until this summer.

Lucas may now have more time to dedicate to his family; he sold his production company, Lucasfilm Ltd., to the Walt Disney Company for $4.05 billion in October 2012, The Huffington Post reports.

"Star Trek" director J.J. Abrams is currently directing the first in a series of planned "Star Wars" sequels, set to begin filming early next year.

Meanwhile, Hobson is still a working woman, and is additionally chairman of Dreamworks Animation and a financial contributor with CBS.
