Google Glass XE8 Update: Software Updates Includes Feature To Reserve Dinner, Book Hotel With AR Lens

Google Glass XE8 update has arrived for the much-followed Augmented Reality lens of the tech giant. A new feature for this month’s update includes the ability to reserve dinner, book hotels and even get concert tickets.

Google has added the ability to pull up more Google Now cards on Glass, according to the blog Phandroid. Now the lens can pull up cards with basically anything that can send you an email confirmation to your Gmail account – movie and showtime cards are also in the new feature together with emergency alerts for flash floods, thunderstorms, traffic updates, weather and live sports scores.

Another new feature – Voice commands for Glassware apps can now be added to the main menu. Users can say things like, “Ok Glass, take a note” or “Ok Glass, post an update.” Phandroid noted that this new function, however, is limited to officially supported Glassware, like Path and Evernote. It is expected that the feature will expand to other apps, especially since Google has provided documentation on how to enable the feature for app developers.

Video player with navigation controls is also now included with the XE 8 update. Controls include skip, play and pause and could be for either recorded videos or, apps like CNN. Volume controls have been added, which allows Glass users to mute all sound in Glass or crank the volume up if needed.

Every month Google adds new features to the Glass with the goal of testing out specs and ensuring that the AR lens are as readily usable as possible to a wider market.
