‘Who Is Next: WIN’ First Episode Is a Huge Hit

"WIN," YG Entertainment's real survival program to determine the new YG boy band, is already a huge hit, and it's largely thanks to the introduction of many unique members.

The first airing was on the 23rd. The premise of "WIN" is dividing up 11 of YG's best male trainees into two groups, Team A and Team B, and pitting them against each other in a survival battle to determine a winner. The winning team will debut following their win with the name "Winner." Team A has 5 members, and the Team B has 6 members. The first episode was such a sensational hit that there is already much anticipation building up for the 9 episodes to follow.

Many people assumed that most of the attention in Team A would be given to Kang Seung Yun and Lee Seung Hoon due to their popularity (from survival audition program Superstar K2 and Kpop Star, respectively) but the attention was distributed to other members in the group. The show focused on the group's other individuals who were not very well known until then. Kim Jin Woo's reunion with his father in their hometown Jeju Island was especially heartwarming. He is the oldest trainee in YG and in Team A.

Team B's leader B.I also showed off a charisma not unlike that of Kang Seung Yun and Lee Seung Hoon. He debuted as a child rapper on MC Mong's "Indian Boy" and was picked up almost immediately by Yang Hyun Suk himself. He revealed his high expectations for B.I, garnering interest in the previously little known trainee. He showed his leadership skills and stage effectively, leaving no questions as to why he was held in high esteem by YG.

Kang Seung Yun and Lee Seung Hoon showed a different side than was previously shown on TV, which piqued the interest of the viewers. Kang Seung Yun left his 'rocker' image and showed himself to be a proper K-Pop trainee, showing off dance moves and R&B vocals. Lee Seung Hoon showed a much more serious side than he showed on Kpop Star.

The first episode showed the inner workings of YG and introduced the concept of monthly evaluations that all YG trainees go through. The preview for the second episode showed YG's tough love to his trainees as well as the introduction of other members.

'WIN' will be held for 10 weeks before open voting by the viewers via online, mobile, and live voting. The show can be seen on Mnet on Fridays.
