Can K-pop Ever Go Back To This?: A Pink's "U You"

I'm not a fan of A Pink's style or music but what I like about them is their innocence. I don't know when K-pop became so sexualized,i.e., Brown Eyed Girls, 9 Muses, etc., but K-pop used to literally be about Korean pop music with loads of lollipops, glitter, crushes, and cute facial expressions. Any time I watch an A Pink video, I'm reminded of how far girl groups have come in both a good and bad way. Even though their whole approach is borderline cheesy, I appreciate the little girl feel, their well-covered outfits, their innocent dance moves, and the non-sexual concepts.

The group's newest MV "U You," is just a simple 4 minute video with adorable interactions between the members. There were no inappropriate crotch shots, not that crotch shots are ever appropriate, no rated R dance moves, no cover-my-little-sister's-eyes scenes-it was just A Pink and peace signs and flowers and it was appropriate enough for a 1st grader to watch and enjoy and as a grown woman something about it made me feel at ease, to know that there is still some kind of sanity in the world of entertainment. Audiences reach a point where they become desensitized to all the sexuality and when the point hits, there's no turning back, which gives artists and their teams more leeway to up the sexual ante. So when and where does the line stop and end?

I can't imagine K-pop ever reverting back to the days where the industry wasn't inundated with sex, boobs, humping, pole dancing and sexual innuendos. I appreciate when groups like A Pink, Girls Generation, Wonder Girls, and Secret approach everything with a very innocent kind of sexiness that makes it comfortable to watch and easy on parents whose children look up to these stars as idols.

Even as a grown woman, I still get extremely uncomfortable watching unnecessarily, over the top sexualized videos when it does nothing for the plot of the music video or for the lyrics in the song. But then again, I'm in the minority and if the people want sex, they'll get it.

So a big shout-out to A Pink and their team for giving us a little bit of our innocence back.
