Aaron Hernandez Pleads Not Guilty To All Six Charges Including First-Degree Murder Of Odin Lloyd: 'Like Opening Kickoff'

Aaron Hernandez pleads not guilty Friday to all charges against him that included murder in the first degree following his indictment.

The former New England Patriots tight-end pleads not guilty to all six charges against him. The other five against Aaron Hernandez include murder, weapons and ammunition charges.

His attorneys agreed ahead of the hearing that Aaron Hernandez, 23, will continue to be held without bail even after he pleads not guilty, but reserved the right to request bail later, according to the Associated Press. The next court hearing is set for Oct. 9.

Defense attorney Charles Rankin told reporters outside the courthouse that Hernandez's legal team is confident the former Florida Gator will be exonerated during a trial. "Not one shred of evidence has been presented yet," he said. The arraignment "is like the opening kickoff.  And, he encouraged people to keep an open mind and let the lawyers and the justice system do their work, according to the AP.

He is on trial with the involvement of the death of former friend Odin Lloyd. He was a 27-year-old semi-pro football player who was dating the sister of Hernandez's girlfriend.

Two other men who prosecutors say were with Hernandez when Lloyd was killed are also facing charges. Ernest Wallace was indicted on a charge of accessory to murder after the fact. He earlier pleaded not guilty to the same charge in district court and was ordered held on $500,000 bail.
