Snake In Starbucks Toilet! Python-Like Snake Still On The Loose, But San Antonio Location Is ‘Safe For Customers,’ Company Assures [PHOTO]

A snake was found in a Starbucks toilet in San Antonio, Texas on Tuesday. The snake is still on the loose, but the Starbucks location assures customers that it is now safe to get your lattes there.

Bruce Ahlswede went to the bathroom in a San Antonio Starbucks, when he saw a snake lying across the toilet, CNN reports. At first he thought it was a toy, but when it started to move he went to find a store employee.

"I said 'Hey you've got a snake in your bathroom and she's kind of freaking out,'" Ahlswede told CNN affiliate KSAT.

Bruce, his wife and store employees all went to look at the snake in the toilet.

"[We] watched it as it slithered back and around and down underneath the rim of the bowl and right inside," Ahlswede said.

His wife, Michele, took a photo right before it disappeared into the toilet bowl, and posted it to Facebook.

While Michele called the snake a "python" on her Facebook page, KSAT consulted a snake expert who told them it was likely a non-poisonous rat snake. CNN reports that rat snakes look similar to pythons have reached 7 feet in length. The snakes pose no threat to humans.

"A lot of people were really freaked out and some said 'thanks a lot," Michelle Ahlswede told KSAT.

The snake was never found, but Starbucks did address the situation, The Christian Post reports.

Starbucks said: "The safety of our customers is our top priority."

"[The South Texas Herpetology Association] confirmed the store is safe for customers and partners and that there were no further safety concerns," the coffee company said in a statement.

The Ahlswedes said they'll be more careful when using the bathroom from now on.

"I'm going to take a closer look and definitely lift the seat," Bruce told KSAT. "Because you never know."
