‘Harry Potter’ Daniel Radcliffe Grows Horns In New Movie;’ Says, ‘It Was Just Very Exciting And Different’

"Harry Potter" Daniel Radcliffe gets horns instead of a wand in his new flick, "Horns."

Directed by Alexandre Aja, the movie premiered in the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival last Friday, and had so far gained a 7.1 rating in IMDB based on 22 votes.

Entertainment Weekly's Jeff Labrecque wrote:

"The movie is extremely funny and clever - the opening line is, 'Are you horny?' - the heart of the story is the first-love romance, but it's still very much an Aja film, with dark elements that will have you squirming in your seat."

Based on the novel by Joe Hill (the second child of notable novelist, Stephen King), "Horns" is about Ig Perrish (Radcliff), a 26-year old man who sprouts horns in the aftermath of his girlfriend's rape and murder.   Oddly enough, the horns make other people pour out their deepest and darkest secrets and desires to Ig, an ability that he uses to try to find his girlfriend's real murderer.

During the after-premier question and answer portion, the 24-year old British actor is quoted as saying, "[I love] whenever you find a script or a book that is so hard to pin down into one genre."

He added, "The first third of this film is incredibly funny and then it has this love story, which to me is the most important part of it. I think to have all these ideas held within this incredibly original way, while also encapsulating huge amounts of religious mythology, which I'm kind of in to.  It was just very exciting and different."

Entertainment Weekly also quoted the book's author, Hill, who puts this novel/movie in the genre Tragi-Comi-Horridy.

He said, "A lot of films know how to play one note, over and over again. But there used to be filmmakers like George Roy Hill, who did Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, which was exciting and funny and romantic and tragic. I just think there's room in life for all those things and it's kind of disappointing when a film only captures one of those things: just the scary stuff or just the romantic stuff. I'm greedy and I kind of want it all. And I think Alex did a great job of capturing that."

After the premier, Hill tweeted, "God, we had fun. #HORNS"

Together with Radcliffe, the film also stars Juno Temple, James, Remar, Kelli Garner, Joe Anderson, Max Minghella, Laine MacNeil, and Dylan Schmid.  The movie is said to roll out in theaters on October 11.  [UPDATE: There is no release date just yet, according to author Joe Hill.  Read more here!]
