Apple News 2013: US Still Belongs To Apple, Market Share Increases Even Without New Releases

If you are an Apple device enthusiast, then this news will surely brigthen up your day.

According to recent statistics from comScore, Apple has gained 1.2 percent of the market share in the United States, from April up to July. And those numbers are coming even without Apple releasing new devices during that timeframe.

comScore reports that Apple still has 40.4 percent of all smartphones in the US in July, up from 39.2 in April. And that's a period of the year where its competitors released high profile devices such as the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4. Nevertheless, Apple remains unfazed by the pressure and continues to be the American's top smartphone.

Meanwhile, Samsung followed not too closely, owning 24.1 percent of the market, up from 22 percent three months prior.

Aside from Apple and Samsung, no other manufacturer posted a double-digit market share in the US. HTC came close with 8 percent, followed by Motorola at 6.9 percent, and then LG at 6.8 percent. Blackberry managed to get 4.3 percent of the market, but that number would probably decrease this quarter due to reports of RIM's plans to sell the company and focus on becoming a niche manufacturer.

When it comes to operating systems, Android is still leading with 51.8 percent of the market, while Apple's iOS has about 40 percent. Windows Phone, surprisingly did not make any improvements in spite the release of the Nokia Lumia 1020, as it stayed at exactly 3 percent of the market from April to June.
