Rumors of MBC's ‘Splash’ Being Cancelled Are False

MBC explained its sudden stoppage in filming and confirmed that they were not cancelling the program, but rather, just postponing filming.

"Star Diving Show: Splash (shortened to Splash)" did not film on the 6th like they were scheduled. Lee Bongwon, one of the contestants and a beloved comedian, suffered a dislocated joint during a diving practice and asked to be dropped from the program. The stoppage in filming is producing rumors of cancellation of the much-hyped show.

MBC explained in a phone interview that they had met with the board of directors for the program and that they had come to a consensus to cancel only that day's filming. The reason for the cancellation of filming was to provide a time for other contestants to settle down and prepare themselves mentally for the training to come.

They already have two episodes filmed, so the broadcast will not be affected by this decision.

"Splash" is based on Netherland's "Celebrity Splash." It is a diving survival program, geared for the summer. The rights to produce the show were purchased by SM C&C, who was then commissioned through a contract negotiation by MBC to produce the program. A cancellation can result in a messy situation because of the contract with SM C&C.

MBC maintains that they will do their best to keep "Splash" on the air, as it is a show that they have been preparing to produce for a long time.
