Ben Affleck’s Batman Casting Defended by Competition; 'F this guy, I wish he was dead'

Ben Affleck’s Batman casting in in Zack Snyder's upcoming sequel to "Man of Steel” was slammed by fans of the comic book superhero, but the Caped Crusader, was recently defended by another actor who was up the part.

For months before Ben Affleck got the part that has caused the controversy, rumors were swirling that Josh Brolin would be second half of the superhero team opposite Henry Cavill who is playing Superman. At the premiere of his film “Labor Day” on Saturday night, Josh Brolin confirmed to Huffington Post that his people were talking with “Man of Steel” producers about playing the eccentric millionaire Bruce Wayne and his masked alter ego.

Josh Brolin said "We did. I didn't have conversations about it, but Zack, that was part of his idea. It just didn't turn out. It's OK. It is OK. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I'm happy for Ben."

Josh Brolin, who is Diane Lane's ex, was one of many actors “Man of Steel” producers tried to fit into the cape. Ryan Gosling, who starred with Josh Brilin in "Gangster Squad" was also looked at for the part, as well as former Batman Christian Bale, Richard Armitage, Joe Manganiello, Matthew Goode, Max Martini, and Tyler Hoechlin, star of "Teen Wolf".

Josh Brolin tried his hand at another big budget movie based on a comic book series. Brolin starred in “Jonah Hex” in 2010 alongside Megan Fox. The film, which was made for $47 million, only made $10 million at the box office.

In the aftermath of the all the fallout that’s come from the casting, Josh Brolin’s says his heart goes out to Ben Affleck, "I've never seen such a global reaction in my life.I feel for him, truly. I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal. It's like, 'F*** this guy, I wish he was dead.' And you're like, 'What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He's doing the same thing you are. He's trying to make the best choices he can.'"

"Dallas Buyers Club" actress, Jennifer Garner, who is Ben Affleck's wife, agrees with Josh Brolin. Jennifer Garner told MTV, "I was excited for him. I was excited because he had a real take on what he wanted to do, and you know, I have to say, my husband is a pretty great storyteller himself, and I'm excited to watch him do it."

The “Man of Steel” sequel starts shooting in 2014.
