50 Shades of Grey Cast: Charlie Hunnam Almost Turned Down Title Role, ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Star Admits Having Gay Sex Scenes At 17!

The "50 Shades of Grey" Cast have been announced, and Charlie Hunnam of "Sons of Anarchy' fame will play Christian Grey. What we don't know is how he almost turned down the role. Not too many are also aware that he played a gay role when he was 17, and he also had sex scenes.

The role of Christian Grey will definitely feature graphic sex scenes. Hunnam is no newcomer to that, as he narrates: "You know what, I had such a baptism of fire with regards to sexuality on camera at the beginning of my career, I starred in the British channel Four miniseries 'Queer As Folk' where I played a young, gay character and there were some incredible, explicit sex scenes on that show. So I feel, and now I am 16 years older and more mature so I don't anticipate them being too much of a problem. It's like anything else, just an exciting challenge."

Another revelation is how Hunnam already turned down the role, if not for Peter Weller, director of the FX series which Hunnam topbills. In Weller's on words: "They came back to him and I said, 'Charlie, Charlie, Charlie, what do you think, this is too pulpy or something? Well, let me give you the list of actors who did matinee idol style stuff, beginning with Cary Grant-- let's go there. If you don't do this, I'll burn your house down."

The anticipated adaptation of the book by E.L. James is due for release in August, 2014. If it bombs, we know whom to blame.
