Amy Winehouse Bronze Statue Will Not Be Unveiled Yet; Dad Doesn’t Like The Design

Amy Winehouse, who’s death in 2011 cut short a promising career, was supposed to have a life-sized bronze statue erected in her image. But Amy Winehouse’s dad, Mitch Winehouse, postponed the unveiling because he felt it was no good.

The Amy Winehouse statue was supposed to be unveiled in Camden, in the north part of London, this month. Mitch Winehouse, Amy Winehouse’s dad, was unhappy with the final design that the artist Scott Eaton came up with for the bronze likeness, and delayed the unveiling.

On Sunday, that Reg Traviss, Amy Winehouse’s former boyfriend, told the United Kingdom’s Mail newspaper that Mitch Winehuose wanted the tribute statue to be perfect before it was displayed publicly.

The Amy Winehouse bronze statue was supposed to be installed outside of the performing arts and concert venue Roundhouse.

Reg Traviss told the paper, "He doesn't want anything to go up that he's not completely satisfied with. But obviously it's never going to look exactly like her."

Amy Winehouse is best known for her album “Back to Black,” which came out in 2006. The “Back to Black” album included the hit singles "Rehab," "You Know I'm No Good" and "Love Is a Losing Game."

Amy Winehouse died on July 23, 2011 at the age of 27. Amy Winehouse had been suffering health issues that were reported to be emphysema and other ailments. Years of drug use and alcohol abuse ravaged Amy Winehouse. Amy Winehouse’s death was ruled the result of accidental alcohol poisoning.

The Roundhouse is a mile away from the house Amy Winehouse used to live in and the house she died in at Camden Square. The last performance Amy Winehouse gave was at the Roundhouse. She died three days later. The Amy Winehouse statue will be situated on a terrace overlooking Chalk Farm road.

The life-size bronze statue shows Amy Winehouse in her famous beehive hairstyle, wearing a retro-style dress. The statue depicts the singer standing. The statue is called “The Amy Winehouse Memorial Statue.”

When the original idea for a statue was mooted, Mitch Winehouse told The London Evening Standard, “Amy was a wonderful person who did a lot for Camden and for kids. She was one of the greatest singers the world has ever known, so why shouldn’t we put a statue up?”

The Amy Winehouse statue is finished and ready to be displayed. There has been no official word yet on when a new date will be announced for the unveiling.
