GTA V Most Expensive Game Ever: Investors Unfazed As GTA Movie Offer Rejected

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) is the latest installment in the epic crime saga. The game's budget is pegged at a staggering $265 million. While these numbers may leave shareholders shivering, the investors are confident of the recoup even as the game's creators rejected offers to make a movie version.

At $265 million, the budget to make GTA V is higher than most Hollywood movies, even Blockbusters. Movies like "Avatar" and the "Avengers" which have grossed much more than $1 billion worldwide cost less than $200 million. Investors and shareholders are unfazed, as pre-order numbers are encouraging, and worldwide anticipation is fever pitch. In fact, according to Wall Street reports, share prices of Take Two, Rockstar Games parent company, has doubled from figures last year.

The anticipated sales figure is around 24 million units, which would propel them past the billion dollar mark. It features more than 100 hours of gameplay and more than 1000 pages of script.

Meanwhile, Rockstar co-founder and vice president of creativity Dan Houser had an interview with The Guardian of UK. He addressed the question of a GTA movie: "We've been offered, many times, and it's never appealed. The money's never been close to be worth risking one's crown jewels. Our small dabblings with Hollywood have always left us running back to games. The freedom we have to do what we want creatively is of enormous value. The second you go near Hollywood, people seem willing, or have been forced, to lose a lot of that control. That sort of amorphous 'that won't test well' attitude is exactly how we don't work. We've always tried to think of stuff that's innovative and new, and to go into a world where that's not encouraged would be horrible."

The long wait will soon end as GTA V will be released on September 17.
