iPhone 5S Fingerprint Sensor: Third Party Developers Not Allowed To Access Famed Touch ID

Like most of us, you may have also anticipated the fingerprint sensor leaked for iPhone 5S a couple of months ago, and now all of that is a reality.

And Apple will make sure that you keep your interest in the scanner, also called Touch ID.

According to reports, the Cupertino company will now allow third party developers to gain access to their Touch ID, obviously for security reasons. While it is easy to change a password once it gets stolen by identity thieves, changing your fingerprint seems a little bit more difficult.

Apparently, Apple has recognized the potential threat and they won't put their users' information in jeopardy just to allow developers to continue supplying quality applications to the iTunes Store. In fact, it only manufactured the sensor in such a way that it would only store the fingerprint data in the device, and not transmit them to Apple's servers.

According to the company's Senior Vice President Phil Schiller, the sensor is off limits to third party developers as of the moment. However, he did not comment whether it would be chnaged in the future.

In case Apple finds a way to grant third party developers access to the Touch ID without getting the fingerprint details, then we would expect them to change their minds.
