Royal News: Prince William and Kate With Prince George To Move To Kensington Palace In A Few Weeks; Duke To Leave Military For Royal Duties, Wildlife Conservation

After over seven and a half years of full-time military service, Prince William will now be focusing more on his royal duties and his other works.  This is according to the official announcement released by the palace, which says:

His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge is to leave operational service in the Armed Forces.

He completes his Tour with the Royal Air Force Search and Rescue Force at RAF Valley, Anglesey, after more than seven-and-a-half years of full-time military service.

He will continue to support the work of The Queen and the Royal Family through a programme of official engagements, both at home and overseas, with The Duchess of Cambridge.

In a few week's time, the Duke of Cambridge will be moving to his official residence in Kensington Palace, together with his wife, Catherine, and his son, Prince George.  He will be active in many programs, such as being President of United for Wildlife, a collaboration of seven conservation organizations in partnership with the Royal Foundation, which aims to protect endangered species and habitats. These organization are: Conservation International; Fauna & Flora International; the International Union for Conservation of Nature; The Nature Conservancy; Wildlife Conservation Society; WWF-UK; and the Zoological Society of London.

The official announcement also said:

The Duke will work closely over the next twelve months with the Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. He will expand his work in the field of conservation, particularly in respect of endangered species.

The Duke will continue to work with his charities on issues relating to children and young people, veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces. The Duke is currently considering a number of options for public service, a further announcement on which will follow in due course.

Prince William started working full-time at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in January 2006; and in December of the same year, was commissioned into the Household Cavalry.  He also served on attachment to the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.  He earned the rank of Lieutenant in the Blues and Royals; and in January of 2009, he began his training as a Search and Rescue pilot.  In January the following year, he had become a fully operational Search and Rescue pilot based in RAF Valley.  Flight Lieutenant Wales, as he is called, had completed 1,300 flying hours since joining the Royal Air Force, and had been involved in 156 search and rescue operations, which had helped in the rescue of 149 people.
