Flash Flood Kills Three In Boulder Colorado Storm Running Through The State: Others Survive From Sinking Cars, Some Missing

Flash flood kills three, at least, when a Rocky Mountain storm system dumped up to 10 inches over central Colorado Wednesday.

As the surrounding towns were bracing for more rain and flash floods, KUSA-TV reported that one person was killed in the collapse of a home in Nederland, which is a mountain community about 20 miles north of Boulder. Colorado Springs police said they found a second victim while patrolling west of the city. The storm kills at least three from the latest reports.

AccuWeather meteorologist Courtney Spamer said that rain fell at nearly two inches per hour Wednesday evening and early Thursday, according to the Weather Channel.

The University of Colorado Boulder campus was closed Thursday after a torrent of water from Boulder Creek flooding buildings.

"I think we have a continually dangerous situation,'' said Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle, who urged Boulder residents to stay home. "It's not a good day to travel. It's not a good day to risk your loved one's lives. It's a good day to hunker down."

Drivers of three vehicles had to be rescued from a ditch after a road near Highway 287 near Broomfield collapsed, according to USA Today.

One person is considered missing after a car was submerged upside down. Another person was pulled out of his car that was sinking in a creek.

"There were homes and businesses that were receiving significant impact," Nick Christensen with the Larimer County Sheriff's Office said. "It was flowing in waves down the road. There's definitely a lot of water."
