Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro have never appeared on screen together before. Their new movie, the mob-focused action comedy “The Family,” opens this weekend. Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer movies are finally happening.

Michelle Pfeiffer says that while she’s never worked with Robert De Niro before, it’s not been for lack of trying. At a press junket for “The Family,” Michelle Pfeiffer admitted to Robert De Niro, "I actually auditioned for Raging Bull, that was when I very first met you… did I ever tell you that?”

Robert De Niro had never been told.

Michelle Pfeiffer said, “It was my very first interview ever, and my agent just sent me on it. It was like go have an experience, never thinking I would ever get the part, which of course I didn't. But I always dreamed of working with him, so I was just very excited."

Dianna Agron said “I’ve seen almost everything. I re-watched “The Deer Hunter” the other day and that movie is unbelievable."

In “The Family,” Robert De Niro plays a mob boss who rats on his crime family and moves his family to a small town in France as part of the Witness Protection Program.

Robert De Niro explained the enduring attraction of the gangster genre. He said "It's like the Westerns. It's part of American folklore. Gangster movies, they go outside the limits the normal limits parameters of everyday living society so that makes them more interesting to watch and if you see it done in a real way it's very interesting. It can also be done in more of a fantasy way, another way of doing it."
