Twitter Search, New Features: VIP Users Of Information Network Can Now Have Private Twitter Sessions, Move Comes After IPO Announcement

One of Twitter’s newest features for 2013 gives special features to an elite class of Twitter users. The information network now enables close-door Twitter exchanges for its celebrity members. After the company’s 135-character IPO announcement, Twitter went on to publicize that they intend to roll out a simpler way for its VIP users to talk to each other.

The first thing on the list is to make sure that they put in place special filters that will keep out any of the mentions that are coming from non-VIP members (lower class) on the social network.

This means that Twitter uses like Lady Gaga, who is the top three most followed Twitter user at the time of this writing, can tweet with Twitter user no. 1 Justin Bieber without the mentions and responses of their combined fans of almost 85 million.

CNET reported that this means that those who have verified accounts will only be seeing conversations from other high status users. These profiles are all going to be denoted by blue check marks so that they can identify who is verified as a VIP. CNET continues further to explain that the soon to begin process will then be improved to ensure that they can do the same for mobile use as well.

CNET views this as a target on Twitter’s back for dealing with “first world problems” despite the fact that it is true that the verified accounts are bombarded with mentions. It is however, in Twitter’s best interests to make sure that their high profile users have a good experience on the social network.

It will be interesting to see how the elite users of Twitter will start conversing with each other without the bother of the rest. The information network has just integrated a class system in their supposedly egalitarian social media platform.
