Pixar’s ‘Finding Dory’: Willem Dafoe Returns For Sequel; Former Green Goblin Disses ‘Amazing Spider Man’

'Finding Dory' continues to nab its former cast. Willem Dafoe returns to the aquarium. He also speaks his mind on the 'Amazing Spider Man' reboot.

Willem Dafoe is a revered character actor. His voice work as Gill, the self-appointed leader of the 'tank gang' and served as Nemo's mentor in 'Finding Nemo' will be back to reprise his role. He has already started voice work.

He confirms this in Total Film: "Yeah I've already started.  It's even better than the first. It's fantastic. It's good to say I think it's going to be better than the first; that's good advertising! It's difficult to repeat a success and so many years afterwards, but it's really cool. I've done one session so far and I just am going to have such a good time."

Despite the 13 year lull, Dafoe firmly believes that the sequel will match the original movie's success. The focus on the film shifts from Nemo to Dory. Dory was  a scene stealer, played exceptionally by Ellen Degeneres.

While Dafoe is giddy about their sequel, he can't say the same about another franchise. As a former villain in the Sam Raimi "Spider Man" trilogy, he pans the current reboot: "I saw a trailer for the first Spider-Man reboot and I thought, 'This is crazy! It's not shot for shot, but it's the same story. I thought, 'This is sort of a cynical approach to making money!' I like Spider-Man, the first one that I was involved in, because although you can argue all sorts of things, from my perspective it was very pure," Willem said.

Willem Dafoe explained why he felt that the newer movie version of the comic book superhero had a different vibe than the previously-released films about the web-wielding hero. "This real, genuine innocence it wasn't indicated. Then after that it became more difficult because it's hard to achieve that when it's gotten some kind of attention and a certain level of success!"

Finding Dory opens on 17 June 2016.
