LG G Flex Release Date Set For November; 6-Inch Curved Screen To Be The ‘World’s First Flexible OLED Display’

LG 'G Flex' release date may be set for November.

The first LG smartphone to have a curved screen, the G Flex may be unveiled next month, according to rumors emerging in the web. Citing The Wall Street Journal, BGR posted that the LG G Flex will "feature a 6-inch, "plastic OLED" screen, which will allow LG to 'experiment with different shapes' such as the concave design which is hinted at by the prototype design sketches."

Moreover, Daily Mail posted that the 6-inch display of the LG G Flex will be made of bendable plastic substrates, "rather than glass, and the panel can be attached to any curved device."

Moreover, the design of the display of the LG G Flex is made of 0.44 mm - thin plastic and it has a protective film that is attached to the back, thus, making it "bendable and unbreakable. Furthermore, as LG claimed it, the flexible OLED panel used is "the 'world's slimmest among existing mobile device panels."

A rival company, and one of the largest smartphone manufacturers, Samsung, made an announcement last month about its plans to launch its own products with flexible display. However, LG is anticipated to beat the phone company making the technology available to consumer first.

Executive vice president and chief technology officer of LG Display, Dr. Sang Deog Yeo, stated, "LG Display is launching a new era of flexible displays for smartphones with its industry-leading technology."

He further added, "The flexible display market is expected to grow quickly as this technology is expected to expand further into diverse applications including automotive displays, tablets and wearable devices."

Sharing their objective about this world's first curved display, he said, "Our goal is to take an early lead in the flexible display market by introducing new products with enhanced performance and differentiated designs next year."
