K-Pop Rewind: Baby VOX 'Get Up'

Even though they debuted two years earlier, "Get Up" was the first number one single for Baby VOX.

The famed K-Pop girl group got off to a rocky start. Their initial, edgy concept was not well-received and the group was almost immediately met with rumors of conflict among the members.

The early days of Baby VOX featured quite a few line-up changes - first replacing Cha Yu Mi after an on-stage injury and soon after with the dismissal of Jung Shi Woon and Jang Hyun Jung due to conflicts with management.

For the second album comeback, Baby VOX's agency DR Music revamped the girls' style, adopting a more cutesy look that seemed to have been working for their contemporaries S.E.S and Fin.K.L.

The group gradually started rising in popularity after the single "Ya Ya Ya" hit number seven in the charts.

Shortly after, the members updated their look once again, this time opting for a sexier, more mature look with the follow up track aptly named "Change."

After one more change in line up - this time Lee Gai being ousted for lying about her age, Baby VOX came back with their third album and secured their success in the Korean music industry.

Come Come Come Baby included three hit singles, "Get Up," "Killer," and what many consider to be the group's best ballad track, "Missing You."

"Get Up" was the group's first ever song to reach number one and later in the year Baby VOX won the Top Excellency Award at the 1999 Seoul Music Awards.

After the success of Come Come Come Baby, Baby VOX went on to release four more albums and expand outside of South Korea. The group had considerable success in China and became the first Korean group to hold a concert in Mongolia.

Eventually Baby VOX disbanded for good in 2006, leaving behind a somewhat tortured legacy but nonetheless, good music.
