Even Benedict Cumberbatch thinks his own name is weird.






While making a recent guest appearance on Katie Couric's talk show to promote his new movie "The Fifth Estate," Cumberbatch hilariously bashed his unusual name.






"Hello, Benedicit Cumberbatch," Couric said. "Who has the best name in show business, right?!"






"Thank you very much," Cumberbatch said, before Couric asked, "Have you ever thought about changing it?"






The actor admitted that he did actually give a name change a try.






"There was one moment in the beginning my career where I was called Benedict Carlton, which is my middle name, one of my middle names," he confessed.






Being Benedict Carlton didn't really better his chances of having a acting career.






"And it didn't ride very well. I had sort of six months of trying to get work," he said.






One agent eventually asked, "Why on earth aren't you calling yourself Benedict Cumberbatch?"






Cumberbatch replied with, "Well because it sounds like a fart in a bath."






This left Couric and her audience in laughter. "A fart in a bath!" Couric said hysterically.






"But once you've got it, it kind of sticks," Cumberbatch added. "It's worked out all right."
