Paul McCartney Defends Miley Cyrus: 'What's Everyone Shouting About? I can Twerk With The Best Of Them’ Beatle Says

Paul McCartney has come out in the support of Bangerz star Miley Cyrus, saying it is okay for artists of her generation to do something that makes them stand out in the crowd.

Talking to Sky News earlier this week, Sir McCartney, when quizzed about his opinion of Miley Cyrus and her VMA 2013 performance, the Beatles singer said, '"I don't think it was explicit at all. You couldn't see anything. I watched it just as an experiment to check, but you look at it and you say 'what's everyone shouting about?'

The 71-year old singer pointed out that there have been VMA performances that were worse than this and Miley twerking with Robin Thicke on 'Blurring Lines' was only slightly explicit.

"I think it was only mildly shocking. She's dancing with Robin Thicke on the awards. So what. Come on, we've seen worse than that."

His support for the Wrecking Ball singer came as a surprise for many; he re-affirmed his stand on Cyrus in an interview with Jo Whiley.

When prompted about his earlier take on Cyrus and the trend of racy music videos, he said it is their way of getting attention and there's nothing wrong if it works.

"So you've got to do something to get above the chatter and that's what you'll see a lot of the guys, a lot of the girls, doing. I don't think it was bad at all. She looked good, I thought."

He even said, 'I can twerk with the best of them', adding that he did not mind his 10 year old daughter watching Cyrus' twerking VMA performance.

Sir Paul McCartney is busy promoting his new album 'New,' which received mixed reviews from the fans. In the first week of October, he staged impromptu performances in New York City Times Square and a school in Queens to promote his new album with the masses.
