MacBook Air Recall! Apple To Replace Failing Flash Drives

While everyone is excited about Apple's upcoming event this coming October 22, readers may have missed the giant company's announcement last Thursday through its company website a, MacBook Air recall.

Apple's MacBook Air Flash Storage Drive Replacement Program intends to resolve issues involving 64- and 128-gigabyte flash storage drives for previous Mid-2012 MacBook Air (both 11 and 13 inch) models, according to Apple's website. Previous generation MacBook Air(s) which were sold between June 2012 and June 2013 are affected with the SSD problems.

MacBook Air users can check if their laptop is affected with the flash drive issue through MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1. This update is intended to fix issues resulting to data loss, specifically with the 64 and 128GB models. This process could either fix the bug or if in case it did not, the laptop is affected with the bug and the flash drive will be replaced by Apple for free.

Apple in its website instructs MacBook Air owners with affected problem contact one of Apple service providers namely; Apple Retail Store through Genius, Apple Authorized Service Provider and Apple Technical Support - to schedule an appointment to get the replacement flash drive.

The company strongly suggests that MacBook Air owners with the said problem should back up their data first before bringing their laptops to Apple. It is also a must that the owners avoid installing any updates on their operating system, as this could be crucial in creating data backup.

Apple's latest Haswell powered MacBook Air mid-2013 model seems not to be affected with the problem.
