OS X Mavericks is now available for free download.

After more than 2 weeks of the release of gold master version, the Cupertino-based tech titan has announced that OS X Mavericks can be downloaded for free today. As posted on Engadget, OS X Mavericks free download is available for users using the Snow Leopard and later Mac operating systems. OS X Mavericks free download can be accessed via the App Store.

Also dubbed as the OS X 10.9, Mavericks, which is "named after a surf spot in California", according to The Guardian, include new and enhanced features such as the iBooks, redesigned Calendar and Map apps. The OS X Mavericks free download also offers an update to Apple's web browser, Safari.

Aside from faster and more efficient performance promised by Apple, OS X Mavericks free download also offer a better support for multiple monitors, refreshed Finder app and a more robust notification system.

Another new feature that user can experience from the OS X Mavericks is the iCloud Keychain, which is the remodeled version of the previous Keychain service that syncs across devices. iCloud Keychain "also encourages users to create more secure passwords with a new generator, and allows credit card details to be saved for future use."

As posted on The Verge, the release of OS X Mavericks free download is the first time for Apple to offer a major update without charging any fees. Previously, the 10.8 Mountain Lion has a price tag worth $19.99 while the 10.7 Lion update was available for $29.99

Furthermore, the post reads, "It's worth noting that the discount doesn't extend to OS X Server. The latest Server 3.0 requires Mavericks and will be available as a $19.99 upgrade from the Mac App Store."
