iPad Air Vs iPad Mini: Apple's Next-Gen iOS Tablets With Retina Display Arriving This November

Apple has recently unveiled its latest lineup of iOS tablets which particularly include the iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina display. So for Apple fans still confuse as to which of the two new tablets to get this holiday season, the specs comparison below might help.

iPad Air vs iPad Mini: Dimensions, Weight and Body

iPad Air is the latest model of Apple's full-sized iOS tablet, and it received the first huge redesign since the launching of the very first iPad in 2010. Compared to the previous version of the iPad, the iPad Air offers a thinner and more compact iOS slate, inspired from the iPad Mini's form and design. Specifically, the iPad Air measures 240 mm X 170 mm x 7.5 mm.

Meanwhile, the iPad Mini with Retina display did not received major changes when it comes to the size. Though the iPad Mini with Retina got 4% thicker, folks over at GizMag said that they doubt it "will make for a very noticeable change." iPad Mini with Retina display's dimensions are 200 mm x 135 mm x 7.5 mm.

For the weight, iPad Air is 469g heavy, 43 percent heavier than the new iPad Mini which only weighs 331 grams. Both two tablets are equipped with body made with anodized aluminum, similar to the previous models.

iPad Air vs iPad Mini: Display

iPad Mini's Retina display is one of the biggest changes made to the new tablet, since the original version does not sport one. Furthermore, it also has the same number of pixels as the iPad Air, which also means that it has higher pixel density. For the technical display specs, the iPad Air sports a 9.7-inch screen with 2048 x 1536 resolution and a pixel density of 264 ppi. On the other hand, the iPad Mini has 7.9-inch display screen running also at a resolution of 2048 x 1536, although it has 326 pixels/inch pixel density.

iPad Air vs iPad Mini: Processor

iPad Air and iPad Mini are both powered by the 64-bit A7 chip, the processor which also runs the recently released iOS smartphone, the iPhone 5S. The A7 chip in the latest iPhone is a dual core processor and is clocked at 1.3 GHz.  Both these two iOS tablets are also equipped with motion coprocessor, which can log data from the sensor of the tablet without killing the battery.

iPad Air vs iPad Mini: Other Specs

iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina display have the same storage options - 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. Also, their camera specs are also similar, with the rear sensor equipped with 5 megapixels, while the front-facing one has 1.2 MP sensor. The two iOS tablets are also running the latest Apple mobile operating software, the iOS 7.

iPad Air release date is already fixed for November 1, while the iPad Mini with Retina display is expected to arrive in the market later next month.
