Team A Conquers YG's WIN: Was Their Victory In The Competition Really Surprising?

Kang Seung Yoon, a popular member in Team A, was a favorite of Yang Hyun Suk, from the start.

Being a rookie in the K-Pop industry usually entails lots of pitfalls and rigorous training, with the potential of never seeing the bright lights of a stage or hear the roar of a crowd. When YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk first announced WIN through an article on YG Life, he delivered a proclamation that made it very clear that Kang Seung Yoon would emerge victorious from WIN.

Kang Seung Yoon is seen as another musical prodigy by the YG CEO. Prior his solo debut in July, As a solo artist he had placed fourth on "Superstar K2" and had already performed an acting role in "High Kick 3". His July release of "It Rains" triumphed on the real time charts. After three years of training, Kang Seung Yoon displayed star power in the MV for his single "Wild & Young". Did the formula of emphasizing the potential of this one member create the image in the eyes of the voting public that he was already a star within YG Entertainment, whose group was destined to achieve success even before the cameras began to roll?

In a competition where the general public has a vested interest in the outcome, setting up one or many competitors to look like instantaneous victors is common tactic. The television networks responsible for American Idol and X-Factor repeatedly utilize these plot devices to stir up the pot of contestants, while maintaining a sense that the winner has already been determined.

Throughout the competition, Team A and Team B fought valiantly to maintain the upper hand. As the end drew closer, netizens speculated that Team B may in fact succeed in their quest for dominance, citing their strong stage presence and solid dance skills. However, Yang Hyun Suk reiterated prior to the WIN finale that he would uphold his initial promise to disband the losing group, according to the voting results. Regardless of what will become of the members of Team B, it was apparent that Kang Seung Yoon and vicariously Team A, would emerge victorious from day one.
