Destiny will always have a role in Mystic Falls relationships. Such is the case for former lovers Stefan Salvatore and Elena Gilbert who appear to be entwined despite the complications that they are separately facing. 

Stefan might be dealing with his amnesia but it does not mean that his return has not affected Elena. His inevitable connection to Elena will reportedly threaten the latter's relationship with the older Salvatore brother, Damon. In the latest promo video for 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 5 Episode 5 entitled 'Monster's Ball', Mystic Falls will hold its traditional Remembrance Day to honor the dead. Damon and Elena tries to help Stefan which triggers Elena to take an emotional journey. 

Matt Donovan is still determined to know the reason behind the blackouts that he experiences after what Nadia did to him. In the third episode entitled 'Original Sin', Matt woke up clasping a knife. He couldn't remember what happened or how did he end up in such situation. 

Caroline, on the other hand, tries to know Jesse better. The Mystic Falls gang is not yet aware of what really happened to their resident good witch Bonnie. In the previous episode 'For Whom The Bell Tolls', Jeremy tells Matt that Bonnie is currently spending time with her mother in DC but Matt does not buy his excuse. Matt exaggeratedly says that he sent 300 e-mails to Bonnie but only got 2 responses. In the upcoming episode, Jeremy will finally tell the truth to Damon. Damon believes that he can use Silas to bring Bonnie back but magic always comes with a price.

The mysterious Dr. Maxfield eventually puts his plan into action which will impose a significant change in the town. 

The CW Network has similarly released its official synopsis for the episode:

"On campus, Elena is touched by a sad and secretive student named Aaron. Elena and Damon attend the Whitmore Historical Ball dressed as Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII. At the Ball, Elena shares a dance with Dr. Maxfield, who has a disturbing message for her. Caroline's evening at the Ball takes her from happiness to heartbreak. Meanwhile, Nadia reveals her surprising history to Katherine (Nina Dobrev), and Damon tries to make a deal with Silas.  Silas' demand that Damon commit an unthinkable act leads to a violent confrontation."

'The Vampire Diaries' Season 5 Episode 5 will be airing on Halloween, that's why fans should anticipate elegant costumes paired with bloody confrontations.
