Star Wars Episode 7 Update: Why Did Michael Arndt Give Up Screenwriting Job For The Highly Acclaimed Sci-fi Movie Sequel?

May The Force Be With You! Perhaps that’s what Michael Arndt would tell JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan as he hands over screenwriting job for the much anticipated Star Wars Episode 7 movie.

Originally, Star Wars Episode 7 is supposed to be written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine,Toy Story 3), produced by famous Kathleen Kennedy (Back To The Future, Jurassic Park) and directed by geek nation staple J.J. Abrams (Mission Impossible III, Super 8).

Now that Arndt left, Star Wars legends JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan, the writer who’s responsible for the success of Empire Strikes Back, will take over. That should pacify Star Wars fanatics.

Back in July, reports about tension and disagreements about the movie circulated. Initially, reports claimed that Disney wanted the movie released in Summer 2015 and then might have pushed it later for the Christmas Holidays – will be the first time for a Star Wars movie series to be released at that time of the year.

On the other hand, there had been discussions about Abrams coming aboard the project and didn’t like what he saw in the script, thus making him want start again. Those rumors seem to be evidently true as Arndt left the screenwriting project to Abrams and Kasdan.

Moreover, rumors have been circulating that the now duo will rewrite the whole screenplay for the movie.

However, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy’s statement made it clear that no rewriting will happen, “There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way a Star Wars story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen. J.J. of course is an incredible storyteller in his own right. Michael Arndt has done a terrific job bringing us to this point and we have an amazing filmmaking and design team in place already prepping for production.”

As of press time, either Arndt or Lucas Film Productions has yet to make an official statement regarding why the writer left the movie project.
